Hejazi Restaurant at Bab Samhan: Where Heritage Meets Contemporary Elegance
At Bab Samhan, the Hejazi Restaurant reflects the rich cultural identity of old Jeddah through a considered blend of art, design, and craft. The space has been curated to highlight heritage in a way that feels authentic yet contemporary, allowing guests to experience Saudi traditions in a fresh context.
The design takes inspiration from Jeddah’s green mashrabiyas, reinterpreted as gold-leaf artworks with tassel accents that bring a subtle sense of nostalgia into the interiors. This is complemented by artworks referencing traditional Saudi necklaces, where beading, embroidery, and gold threads are reimagined into layered compositions, bridging past craftsmanship with modern design.
Capsule Arts worked with a diverse group of artists to bring depth to the space. Debjani Bhardwaj introduced intricate paper cut pieces inspired by Islamic geometry. Soroshi Michelle created engravings that draw on the patterns of mashrabiyas. Aziza Iqbal produced geometric works influenced by Islamic miniatures and coastal heritage. Haneefa Usmani contributed detailed patterns with bold colors and gold touches, echoing Hejazi design. Together, these works create a cohesive collection that turns the restaurant into a gallery-like setting.
The Hejazi Restaurant offers more than a dining experience it provides guests with a genuine sense of place. Surrounded by art and craft, the interiors highlight how Saudi heritage can be preserved and reinterpreted in ways that feel relevant today. In line with Vision 2030, it demonstrates how tradition and creativity can work together to shape memorable cultural experiences.
