Set within the mountains of a hidden wadi along Saudi Arabia’s Red Sea coast, this resort redefines the dialogue between architecture, art, and the natural environment. Carved directly into ancient rock formations, it celebrates the raw beauty and geological story of the land, a retreat that honours the spirit of place through stillness, materiality, and restraint.

Capsule Arts developed the art and accessory collection through a philosophy of layered minimalism, a deliberate and thoughtful approach that distills the essence of the landscape into form, texture, and light. Each piece is born of the earth, mineral and tactile, bearing the imprint of time’s graceful patina. Together, these elements weave into a cohesive story that connects the past, present, and future through material and craft.

The collection captures the poetry of the desert through three interwoven narratives: Lunar Landscapes, Earthy Textures and Patterns, and Local Crafts. Artworks inspired by the dramatic terrain reflect the sculpted beauty of the mountains, where geology becomes art and the land itself becomes muse. The palette draws from ochres, siennas, and deep umbers, forming a visual language that mirrors the surrounding cliffs and shifting desert light.

Among the key artworks are abstract compositions inspired by the region’s earthy materials — weathered stones, rich soils, and ancient timbers. Their layered forms translate the geological history and raw beauty of the mountains into fluid artistic expressions, weaving together texture, light, and movement. Through this interplay, the works evoke the timeless rhythm of erosion and renewal that defines the desert’s landscape.

The collection also features works by Saad Al Howede, whose framed textile pieces reinterpret the traditional Saudi bisht through layers of woven cord and fabric, reflecting the balance between cultural heritage and contemporary form. Sculptural rope installations with braided tassels in the spa and villas echo Sadu weaving traditions, while circular wall artworks in matte black and light gold tones capture the celestial geometry of the sun and moon over the wadi. Custom planters and carved wall compositions in the guest hub and specialty restaurant draw from the valley’s contours, creating visual continuity throughout the resort.

A key element of the collection is a series of custom-made pottery vessels, produced in collaboration with a regional pottery studio commissioned specifically for this project. Hand-shaped using local clay and finished in natural desert tones, each piece carries subtle variations that celebrate imperfection, touch, and material honesty. Together with woven baskets and metal accessories, these handcrafted elements bring warmth and authenticity to the resort’s interiors.

Each piece was crafted to evoke a sense of locality while maintaining the refined restraint that defines the resort’s design language. Collaborations with Saudi and regional artists ensured that the works not only reflect the site’s geological and cultural narrative but also celebrate craftsmanship as a living and evolving practice.

The result is a collection that feels discovered rather than designed, one that invites guests to experience the subtle interplay of texture, shadow, and material truth. Quiet, authentic, and deeply rooted in place, it reflects Capsule Arts’ ongoing pursuit to create art experiences that connect people to their surroundings, blending creativity, storytelling, and craftsmanship into one seamless narrative.
