Commissioned work with Capsule Arts

Sculptural Installation for Mövenpick Hotel, Al Marjan Island, Ras Al Khaimah

Emirati Artist Azza Al Qubaisi was commissioned by Capsule Arts to develop an awe-inspiring installation that would feature in the atrium of the Movenpick Hotel. The boulder installation draws inspiration from the original natural landscape of the area, paying homage to the traditional owners of the land. The sculpture looks deeper into Ras Al Khaimah’s heritage that spans over more than 9000 years, with its distinctive landscape of fertile lands and high mountains, all of which have supported for centuries a continuous and organized human presence.

Using stone excavated from a local quarry the piece demonstrates a contemporary view of man vs nature, juxtaposing the raw beauty of the carved stone, against the striking vibrant blue metal that integrates with the boulders and reflects the nearby ocean.
